General Information

Southampton General Hospital is a very large acute hospital, run by the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust provides services to some 1.3 million people living in Southampton and South Hampshire, plus specialist services to more than 3 million people in Central Southern England and the Channel Islands. The Trust is also a major centre for teaching and research in association with the University of Southampton and other research partners.

Southampton General Hospital is the Trust's largest location and hosts outpatient clinics, diagnostic & treatment work and surgery, as well as providing day beds and longer stay wards for many hundreds of patients. Emergency and critical care is provided in the hospital’s special intensive care units, operating theatres, acute medicine unit and emergency department (A&E), as well as the dedicated eye casualty. In addition, a great number of specialist services are based at the hospital.
