Morriston Hospital is run by the Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board and is the site of the major Accident and Emergency Department for Swansea. With its accessibility to the South West Wales population, it is recognised as the Major Trauma Centre for South West Wales.
There is a paediatric unit with two teams caring for children undergoing plastic surgery, maxillofacial surgery, orthopaedics, trauma and general medical paediatrics. Morriston Hospital has around 750 beds, the majority of which are housed in modern accommodation that has been built since 1981. There are Acute General Medical / Care of the Elderly facilities, a well developed Trauma and Orthopaedic service and a range of General Surgical / Urological specialties.
The range of specialist tertiary services provided at Morriston Hospital now includes Renal Medicine, Neurology and Neurosciences, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery and the second Cardiac Centre in Wales. Rheumatology and Palliative Medicine are also provided to a wide catchment area. A full range of high quality diagnostic and therapeutic services are also provided.
