Most wards have direct dial telephone numbers which can be used by patients, family members and visitors - please ask the nurse in charge for this number. They may also advise on the best time to call for an update each day (following the doctor's ward rounds for example).

If you can, please consider contacting the patient's next of kin for the Ward information where possible as it is helpful for staff if just one person telephones with enquiries and then informs other relatives and friends; this helps nursing staff to spend more time with patients.
